Letter from Mr. Paul Doremus, Chairman
Dear Friends,
I am honored to be the incoming Chair for the Seafood Nutrition Partnership (SNP) and want to thank Mr. Jim Motos for his leadership and service as Chair of SNP in 2021-2022. We are continuing on the vision to scale SNP’s mission to help consumers understand the public health benefits of seafood. In 2022, the National Seafood Council Task Force galvanized the seafood industry around the formation of such a National Seafood Promotion Campaign. We are seeing great momentum across the seafood sector for growing the awareness of the public health benefits of eating more seafood.
As we come out of the pandemic we are seeing strong consumer sentiment for foods that support their mental health, immune health, and busy schedules. And seafood meets the needs for what consumers are seeking today. This is a great opportunity for the seafood industry to tell its own story with consumers and share the wonderful progress made collectively on sustainable seafood, seafood nutrition science, and the essential value of seafood to our health, planet’s health and future food security.
I want to acknowledge the Board of Directors for working diligently on the SNP mission and envisioning a strategy to reach more Americans. Our science council is the foundation of the work conducted at SNP and its tremendous impact on national seafood nutrition guidelines is outstanding thanks to the leadership of Dr. Tom Brenna, SNP SNAC Chair. Last but not least, I thank all of our valued donors and partners for making SNP’s work possible. I encourage you to continue to support the Seafood Nutrition Partnership in its next decade of impact.
Letter from Ms. Linda Cornish, Founder and President
Dear Friends,
In 2022, we came together around the great story that seafood has to tell to consumers and celebrate seafood. There are tremendous reasons to celebrate seafood. The scientific evidence continues to grow stronger that seafood nutrition is a solution to many of the issues we face today, from our public health crisis to climate change impacts. What we eat matters to address our most pressing challenges and adding seafood as a staple of the American diet matters.
There are many visionary leaders in the seafood sector that help make our work possible. We are grateful for the chance to have celebrated three individuals for their contributions to the mission of Seafood Nutrition Partnership at the 2nd Annual SNP Honors: Chef Kelly Armetta, Mr. Joseph Bundrant, and Dr. Joseph Hibbeln. We had a special acknowledgement of appreciation for the late Mr. John Connelly. The following day the SNP SNAC hosted a successful 6th Annual State of the Science Symposium for both in-person and virtual attendees with the themes of Brain Health and Resilience and Ensuring Our Future Food Security.
We value our continued partnership with health influencers and we held several programs throughout the year with registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) to provide the latest science and resources to help RDNs recommend more seafood to their clients and customers.
The National Seafood Council Task Force continues to grow and held a standing room only town hall at the Boston Seafood Show and educated policymakers on the public health benefits of eating seafood and the merits of educating American consumers through a National Seafood Promotion Campaign throughout the year.
During October National Seafood Month, the Seafood4Health Action Coalition along with retail and foodservice partners collaborated on the Celebrate Seafood pilot campaign and generated over 675 million digital impressions.
Our work is only possible through the support of our valued donors, partners, staff, and volunteer Board of Directors, Scientific Nutrition Advisory Council, Ambassadors, Seafood4Health Action Coalition, and NSC Task Force. I am so honored to be on this health journey with you! Together we are making a positive difference in the lives of so many Americans through seafood nutrition.

INDUSTRY OUTREACH
SNP continues to conduct education, outreach, and pilot campaigns to build awareness of the public health benefits of seafood with great success.
At the Boston Seafood Show in March, we held a standing room only Town Hall on Uniting the Industry through a National Seafood Promotion Campaign, we had more discussions at our booth, and had a great reception.
REGISTERED DIETITIAN OUTREACH
We continue to strengthen our outreach to Registered Dietitians, a key health influencer group:
(Below) Thanks to sponsors StarKist and Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, Jessica Miller, SNP’s Nutrition Communications Manager, presented the Top 10 Trends in Seafood & How You Can Translate These to Consumers to a rousing audience of 350 RDNs at Today’s Dietitian Conference in May in Bonita Springs, Florida.
(Below) At the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in October, SNP had a booth sponsored by Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, a seafood immersion experience sponsored by Forever Oceans at Emeril Lagasse’s Culinary Kitchen, and a dinner hosted by MOWI at The Oceanaire Seafood Room.
Educational Webinars
An educational webinar and cook along experience, sponsored by Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Sustainable Shrimp Partnership, featuring a virtual tour of a shrimp farm and a cook along with Chef Barton Seaver, SNP Ambassador and Sustainable Seafood Advocate.
SNP Impacts FDA/EPA Guidance on Children’s Brain Development
SNP’s Scientific Nutrition Advisory Council (SNAC) continues to make a great impact on nutrition policy. At the start of the year, the FDA updated the seafood advice for pregnant women to eat seafood to support baby brain development, which is game changing.
In April, Dr. Tom Brenna, Chair of SNP SNAC, spoke in support of seafood at USDA and FDA’s public meeting on its Closer to Zero toxins initiative.
6th Annual State of the Science Symposium
In September, SNP held the 2nd SNP Honors Gala and the 6th Annual State of the Science Symposium with a theme on Brain Health and Blue Foods.
